History and Info on Our Neighborhood
Consisting of beautiful tree lined streets and elegant 19th century architecture, Casa Vaganto is located in the charming “barrio” of Poble Sec (which literally means Dry VIllage in Catalan). Avinguda de Paral·lel, adjacent to where Casa Vangato is located was opened in 1894 and plays a very important role in the history of Barcelona. Early on, Paral·lel became famous for crowds gathering at busy cafes, theaters and cabaret shows. During the years following the Spanish Civil War, popular venues such as El Molino, which still exists today, served as a space for people to escape the post-war troubles and look toward a brighter future for Spain. Opened in 1898, El Molino, which is located in Plaça de la Bella Donita and right in front of Casa Vaganto, was originally called Le Petit Moulin Rouge, named after the famous Moulin Rouge in Paris. Today, Poble Sec has emerged as one of the best neighborhoods in the city for entertainment including great restaurants, nightlife and live performances in many of the theaters & concert halls located in the neighborhood, however manages to maintain it´s local vibe and untouched by the masses.
