The main acts at Carnaval de Barcelona 2020

This year, the starting gun for Carnaval de Barcelona will once again be the act known as L’Arribo. Rey Carnestoltesm, the leading figure of the festival, will inaugurate the 2020 edition, along with his entourage. The best part is that this is an event you can attend with a full stomach. The beginning of Carnaval is also associated with tastings, specifically, of butifarra de huevo, tortilla, and coca de chicharrones.

Saturday the 22nd you can watch the iconic Rúas de Carnaval, a collection of parades that take place in various neighborhoods in Barcelona. The floats fill every corner of the Catalan capital with color.

This brings us to another one of the main dishes of Carnaval de Barcelona. Sunday starts with a huge parade presided over by Rey Carnestoltes, but that’s not the only event scheduled on that day. The Sunday of Carnaval is synonymous with Taronjada, a true battle in which the combatants are orange balloons and confetti. Fun is more than guaranteed!

Another main event for Carnaval de Barcelona, is the iconic Entierro de la Sardina (Burial of the Sardine), which happens on Ash Wednesday. The traditional funeral procession is in charge of closing the Carnaval until the following year. On that day, every neighborhood will offer the final popular treats.

Typical Carnaval sweets

As we mentioned before, one of the mainstays of this festival is gastronomy. Carnaval wouldn’t be Carnaval without traditional sweets like buñuelos or coca de chicarrones. Although it is made with pork, coca is a delicious sweet that will win over anyone who has the pleasure of trying it.

Regarding buñuelos, the most famous type are the ones known as buñuelos de viento, which are filled with pastry cream or chocolate. Delicious! Enjoy the Carnival 2020 during your stay at our boutique hotel in Barcelona centre.
