August means Fiestas de Sants-Montjuïc

August is here, when many Barcelonans take their long-awaited vacations. But it is also the month when certain Barcelona neighborhoods celebrate their largest festivals. This is the case for the Fiestas de Sants-Montjuïc, an event which echoes through the entire city and attracts more visitors every year. It is not to be missed in 2019! If you’re visiting the capital city this month, there’s no better finishing touch for your holiday! We’ll be expecting you at our boutique hotel in Montjuic.

Every year, the Fiestas de Sants-Montjuïc take place at the end of August, starting on the 24th, Saint Bartholomew’s Day, patron of what used to be known as Villa de Sants. It’s the largest day of the festival. The day kicks off with an offering of flowers to the distinguished patron at the Church of Santa María de Sants.

At this point, the neighborhood puts on several days of celebrations, but the spirit and energy never flags. This festival’s schedule leaves little space for boredom, being so jam-packed with endless popular traditions.

Among these, there are a few events that happen every year. These include the Correfocs, (an impressive fire show) in the streets, the Diada castellera (an exhibition of the famous castellers or human towers) and, of course, the legendary Gigantes y Cabezudos.

All these local cultural expressions culminate in a number of concerts, workshops, dances, guided tours, and tastings. The Fiestas de Sants- Montjuïc are great for all ages; there’s something for the whole family.

Another major event is the Street Decoration Contest. Thanks to this competition, both locals and visitors can admire the major neighborhood squares decorated for the occasion.

In 2019, the Main Fiestas de Sants- Montjuïc will kick off on August 17th and continue through the 25th. Without a doubt August is a special month in Barcelona, when it shows off its most festive side. The Fiestas del barrio de Gràcia will be going on almost simultaneously (August 15th to the 21st), so you are more than guaranteed to have a good time!

If you’re staying at our guesthouse close to Sants, you’ll have a chance to fully immerse yourself in one of Barcelona’s most authentic festivals.
